Sneak-peek into 12 century Gem of Sainte -Chapelle

Saint Chapelle is a gem of high Gothic architecture. I got an opportunity to sneak-peek into 12-century gem of Sainte-Chapelle.

The Palais de la Cite was residence and seat of Royal power from 10th to the 14th centuries and housed the Conciergerie and Sainte Chapelle which are now part of the Palace of Justice.

Historical Significance of Sainte -Chapelle

The Sainte Chapelle was built between 1242 and 1248, in accordance with the wishes of Louie IX (King from 1226 to 1217 and the future Saint Louis) the house of relics of The Passion of Christ. The most famous of these relics was Crown of Thrones, acquired in 1239 for a sum that greatly exceeded the cost of building the chapel itself.

The religious and political influence of Sainte -Chapelle

The Holy Relics(parts of saint body, or objects that belonged to saints) has belonged to the emperor of Constantinople since the 4th century.

In purchasing them, Louis IX added to the prestige of both France and Paris which, in eyes of medieval Europe, became a “New Jerusalem”
and hence the second capital of Christianity.

Throughout the Revolutionary period,

The Sainte Chapelle, which was a symbol of royalty by divine right, suffered a great deal of damage, although the Steel with glass rose windows remain intact. From 1846 onwards, a huge wave of restoration work was carried out on the building, giving it its current appearance.

Only The King, and his close friends and family, and the Karen’s leading the services entered it via the outdoor terrace, which at the time was connected to the palace. The lower Chapel was a place of the worship for Palace staff.

Inside, polychrome decoration, like the carved decoration in the porch, dates back to 19th century Restoration work. In the apse on the left, above the door to the former sacristy, is its 13th-century Fresco defecting the Annunciation.

This is the oldest wall painting in Paris.
The low vault is held up by openwork struts linking the aisle columns to the lateral walls. These walls are decorated with blind trefoil arcature and 12 medallions featuring the apostle.

This is truly monumental and sumptuously decorated reliquary. Sculpture and Windows combined harmoniously to glorify the Passion of Christ and create a feeling of entry into the Heavenly Jerusalem, bathed in light and colour.

The Chapel post-match of even its early fame to its stained glass Windows.

The 1,113 scenes depicted in the 15 stained glass windows tell the story of mankind from Genesis through to Christ resurrection. 14 of the windows depicting episodes from the Bible, should be read from left to right from the bottom upward.

Profound International Yoga Day (21 June)-Theme-Significance

Being part of a bigger family such as the ART OF LIVING. I got this opportunity to be part of a Yoga team. With a bunch of people, we conducted two sessions of Yoga with an estimated 300 students. This was an overwhelming experience to celebrate fifth International Yoga Day at Narayana Techno School.

“Like a flower bud, human life has the potential to blossom fully. Blossoming of human potential to fullness is yoga.”SRI SRI

How International yoga day (21 JUNE)came into existence?

On December 11 in 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21st as the International Day of Yoga. The declaration came at the behest of the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi during his address to UN General Assembly on September 27, 2014, wherein he stated: “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition.

Yoga is a 5,000-year-old tradition from India that combines physical, mental and spiritual pursuits to achieve harmony of the body and mind

It embodies the unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being.

It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and nature”.

PM Narendra Modi performs yoga during a mass yoga event on the 5th International Day of Yoga at Prabhat Tara ground, in Ranchi. (Image: PTI)

In Suggesting June 21, which is the Summer Solstice, as the International Day of Yoga,

Narendra Modi had said: “the date is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and has special significance in many parts of the world.”

What is yoga?

In Swami Vivekananda “all this bringing of the mind into a higher state of vibration is included in one word in Yoga .”Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India.

However, the word ‘yoga’ derives from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and consciousness.

“Yoga brings the knowledge, passion and action together.” -SRI SRI .

Why do we mark International Days?

International days are occasions to educate the public on issues of concern, to mobilize political will and resources to address global problems and to celebrate and reinforce the achievements of humanity.

The existence of international days predates the establishment of the United Nations, but the UN has embraced them as a powerful advocacy tool.

What is theme for International Yoga DAY 2019?

2019 Theme is “Yoga for Climate Action”

The theme of 5th International Yoga Day 2019 is “Climate Action”. In the United Nation, it will be celebrated a day before that is on 20 June 2019 with ‘Yoga with Gurus’ and followed by a panel of discussion on 21 June.

Our dedicated team of yoga members from left: Nabonita, Sapna, Saurabh, Me(Namrata), Rajeesha and Prasad. Spreading Our Master message “The purpose of yoga is to stop suffering even before it arises.”

However, Climate Action theme focuses on the way how yoga can help us to solve the problem of climate change and also it brings a lot more benefits to the lives of people.

What is the Meaning of the International Yoga Day logo ?

Meaning of logo . “Yoga is a study of life, study of your body, breath, mind, intellect, memory, and ego; study of your inner faculties.” -SRI SRI

It is necessary to work towards climate change. The sense of respect for mother earth overcomes regular yoga practitioners that will help people to act in a certain way at home and working environment to work and build a better future.

Above all the significance of International Yoga Day

1.Increased muscle strength and tone ,Increased flexibility

2.Improved respiration, energy and vitality

3.Maintaining a balanced metabolism

One significant thing about yoga is it brings uniformity -Here basketball court, a playground is covered with colorful yoga mats and jubilant students.

4.In addition to Weight reduction.Cardio and circulatory health

5.Improved athletic performance

In India, (Ministry of Ayush ) renamed as Department of Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) in November 2003, with focused attention for the development of Education and Research in Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy manages and celebrate International Yoga Day.

Kundalini Yoga-  This form of Yoga is more spiritual in nature and aims to activate the root chakra in the human body, through which increased awareness of the surrounding environment can be created.

Raja Yoga- Raja Yoga is one of the six traditional schools of Hindu philosophy and aims to provide its practitioner with the power of detachment so that he can enjoy everything without getting attached or bound by them.

What is HoneyBee-Keeping?

One fine morning, I got this opportunity to know more about Little honey bee in a two-day workshop at Art of Living Center Bangalore. I could not wait to share it. S.M.Shanthaveeraiah(Beekeeping expert) was having almost 20 years of experience in Beekeeping and at the age of 75. He was still passionate to share his knowledge.

Why Bee Keeping?

Albert Einstein, once predicted that within a few years after the exit of the last bee on the globe the living world also vanishes. All plants agriculture, horticulture, silviculture, medicinal plant, say almost all plants depend mainly on honey bees for pollination and reproduction

S.M.Shanthaveeraiah(Beekeeping expert)

Pollination is the primary benefit derived by honey bees. The benefit of pollination is around 20times worth of the benefits derived from all other bi-products. Whereas Bee wax is used in more than 300 industries including Pharmaceuticals.

What is Bee Keeping?

Keeping a Honey Bee colony in a Beehive box providing a congenial environment of their natural adobe, Bee work freely and pollinate plant species produce other valuable products namely Honey, Bee wax, Pollen, Propolis, Royal jelly, and Bee Venom. Another important question?

Bee coming out of hive

Where you can take up Beekeeping ?

Anywhere with sufficient Bee flora to sustain the food requirement of the honey bee colony near a one-kilometre radius. Bee work in a distance of 500 to the 800-meter radius.

Similarly, the question arise? Who can do Bee Keeping?

A young boy of 10-year-old to aged up to 80 years, irrespective of status and education. Seems like everyone can do this.

What are the Tools and Equipment required for Beekeeping?

Bee Hive Box: This green color wooden box with replaceable frames of uniform size prepared out of well-seasoned wood with more than five-year durability.

Starting from left Bee Veil, Smoker, Bee Hive Box

Bee Veil: Transparent veil to protect the face against Bee stings.

Smoker: Cotton clothes emitting smoke to scare away the bees in need.

Honey Extractor: This stainless steel drum with a rotating gear union and handle to extract honey.

Honey Extractor

Comb foundation sheets: I used to fix this to the brood and superframes for saving energy and time of Bees. The bee needs to consume 15gram of wax in order to produce 1 gram wax. Above all

Most important How to start BeeKeeping?

Contact your nearest beekeeper stay with him for the whole day. Get preliminary training. Take two honey bee colonies in the night. Establish them in a predetermined place.

Now keep 5 to 10 feet distance between the colonies.

Also, arrange the protection of colonies from ants(the best way is putting wood ash around the stand).

Provide artificial feed (1:1sugar solution )twice in a week in the evening. Affix comb foundation sheets to the empty frames.

In every woman there’s a Queen Bee. Overcoming my fear of Bee.

Finally, who are the enemies of a bee?

1.Wax moth: a perfect box and close vigilance are required.

2.Ants: take measure to prevent them.

Remember Morgan Freeman, the actor, film director and philanthropist has added a new title to his name: Beekeeper. He dedicated 124 acres to bee ranch.

ALLAH the All-Knowing says: “And your Lord inspired to the bee, “Take for yourself among the mountains, houses, and among the trees and [in] that which they construct. Then eat from all the fruits and follow the ways of your Lord laid down [for you].” There emerges from their bellies a drink, varying in colors, in which there is healing for people. Indeed in that is a sign for a people who give thought.”           [ Surah An-Nahl (The Bee), Ayath 68-69 ]

I gave a commitment to keep beehives and raise voice for Bee conservation. Feel free to ask any questions about beekeeping and share your experiences as well.

Stay curious on your walks!

Things You Must Know Before Going On Triund Trek

Triund trek is a popular Trek in Himachal with picturesque views. It is the perfect trek for people who are beginners. The trek is not very difficult and is counted among the easier ones.

The Starting Point

We started our trek from Galu. Some people start their trek from Bhagsu Nag waterfall. You can either start the trek from Mc Leodgunj or can come till Galu on a vehicle. The road till Galu is quite craggy and narrow but, the pahadi drivers are proficient enough to drive and drop you safely to the start point – Galu Devi temple. It takes approx. 4-5 hours of trekking to reach the Triund top.

The Starting point of the trek

It is recommended for new trekkers to take a trekking package from a reputed tour operator.

Triund Trek Package Detail

Our package had the following inclusions

  • Accommodation in tents on sharing basis
  • 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner & 1 Breakfast and tea or coffee
  • Sleeping tents, sleeping bags, sleeping mats and toilet tents
  • English-speaking professional mountain guide, cook and kitchen helper
    Bonfire

When you walk up towards the mountain you will find narrow paths with beautiful views.

We kept on walking and the houses in the town started appearing tiny and then disappeared.

Throughout the Triund trek, you will find lush-green mountains, dense forest and beautiful views.

Picturesque View

All that we could see was nature, pine trees and mountains. Somewhere below the white mountain covered with snow was the Triund Top – Our Destination

This journey seemed to be an experience of a lifetime. Although we had our phones on the name of technology, at this point it was just a mere camera for us and we had to save our batteries for the next day also. We were far away from our daily life surrounded by technology, laptop, desktop, online food ordering and transportation apps. We had to save our water, food and walk on our own, unlike our daily routines. Isn’t it an experience of a lifetime?

The best thing about trekking is that you do a lot of physical work and breathe fresh air.

The Mid of the Trek

By the time we started feeling tedious we saw this beautiful view which again energized us again.

Somewhere below the white mountain was the Triund top where we had to spend the night. I and my small group were completely mesmerized by the view and excited to reach the top.

Magic view point

The Change In Weather

As we trekked up the path becomes narrower and the weather unpredictable. From the last 20 hours, we had witnessed all the weather changes from a bright sunny day in Delhi to the pleasant cold weather in Mc Leodgunj and rain here on the way to Triund top. After the rain, our trek becomes a bit difficult due to the mud but it was doable. If Triund is 10,632 feet above sea level then we were approx 8000 ft above the sea level.

If your water and energy drinks are over do not worry because you will see small shops on your way selling essential items. But, the price was 3X or more of the MRP.

The Triund Top

We spent our night on in a tent. Dinner was provided by the tour operator. The mountain next to the top was appearing magnificent because of the full moon. The wind was quite violent and felt like it would take off our tent. But, you need not worry as the guides were there to take care.

The next day we woke up to a beautiful sunny day and packed our belongings to go down to the base camp.

If you had ever been to Triund share the experience below in the comment. If you are planning and need any information regarding the trek to ask in the comment box. We will be happy to help you.

Happy Trekking!
